Summer Policies and Procedures

In accordance with the Colorado Department of Early Childhood Regulations for Residential Camps (2.406.A) which went into effect February of 2025, written policies and procedures must be made available to parents/guardians of all attending campers. Parents/Guardians must state that they have received, agree to follow, accept the conditions of, and give authorization and approval for the activities described in the policies and procedures.  Below is a list of the policies and procedures required for parents to review.  Authorization will be included in the Assumption of Risk, Waiver, and Release of Liability; Activity Addendum Form which is required to complete the registration process.

  3. The following can be found in our Summer Nurse Manual:
    1. The procedure, including notification of parent(s)/guardian(s), for handling camper’s illnesses, accidents, and injuries;
    2. The procedure for storing and administering camper’s medications and delegation of medication administration in compliance with section 12-255-131, C.R.S., of the “Nurse and Nurse Aide Practice Act”;
    3. The policy on the storage and access of inhalers and epinephrine auto-injectors in compliance with sections 22-1-119.5 and 22-2-135, C.R.S.;
  4. The following can be found in our Summer Policies & Procedures Manual which we use to train staff.
    1. The procedure regarding adverse weather;
    2. The procedure for identifying which activities and trips campers will participate in; including procedures for communication during the activities and trips; (See also https://idrahaje.org/summer-camps/narrow-way-expeditions/ for Narrow Way Trips.)
    3. The meals and  snacks offered, how parents can access menus, and how campers with food allergies or special diets are accommodated; (Contact foodservice@idrahaje.org for annual menus.)
    4. The services offered for special needs campers in compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (as incorporated by reference in rule section 2.119, of the General Rules for Child Care Facilities);
    5. The camp’s procedure on positive guidance and strategies and techniques for supporting campers with challenging behaviors;
    6. How decisions are made and what steps are taken prior to the request for parents or guardians to remove a camper from care due to concerns about the camper’s behavioral issues;
    7. The procedures followed, including notification of parent(s) or guardian(s), when a camper is separated from their group and their location is unknown, and for whom the local authorities have been contacted;
    8. The procedure for transporting campers, if applicable, including: camper’s safety related to riding in a vehicle; seating; supervision; emergency procedures on the road; transportation arrangements; and parental permission for excursions and related activities;
    9. The procedure for releasing campers from the children’s resident camp only to persons for whom the resident camp has written authorization, and the procedure for picking up the campers during an emergency;
    10. The procedure concerning the storage of camper’s personal belongings and money;
    11. The procedure for reporting child abuse and/or neglect, including the name of the county department of social/ human services and phone number of where a child abuse report should be made (see rule section 2.126 of the General Rules for Child Care Facilities);
    12. The procedures for emergencies such, and disaster preparedness including but not limited to lost campers, tornadoes, fires, shelter in place, lockdown, active shooter on-premises, reunification with families after emergency or disaster, evacuating children with disabilities as specified in rule sections 2.133 through 2.138 of the General Rules for Child Care Facilities;
    13. The policy and procedure regarding visitors to the resident camp;
    14. Television, movies, videos, music, personal electronic devices, and internet usage policy outlining screen time and media use. The media plan must have information on ongoing communication with campers about online safe practices for campers; and

    1. The procedure for filing a complaint about the children’s resident camp including the name, address and telephone number of the Colorado Department of Early Childhood (see rule section 2.125 of the General Rules for Child Care Facilities)
